This is my Mom and my sister. They are both a little older now. I'm guessing this picture was taken someone around 1965 or 1966. Don't they look alike?
Am I a little more nostalgic about this picture because it's the holiday season and for me that means FAMILY?
Nostalgia |
#1 It's my smiling Mom and Sis
#2 I remember when our kitchen looked like this
#3 I remember when my Mom cooked with the spices from those jars
#4 I remember the teapot and Boston Baked Beans crock on the shelves
#5 I loved my Mom's kitchen so much that when I built my first house, I had shelves built around my kitchen sink just like Mom's kitchen
#6 That chopper hanging on the wall has been used by my Mom (also by me and my sisters) for 50 years
#7 I've washed my fair share of dishes standing right in this spot
#8 How 'bout that hairdo?
#9 I know the view out that window
#10 Even though my Mom's kitchen has new cabinets, counter tops and even a new window, she still lives in the same house and cooks for us in that same kitchen (since 1964)
#11 My Mom has spent a good portion of her life cooking and cleaning up in this kitchen - but never complaining - ALWAYS always being thankful, for every bite of food, her home, her family and even for her dirty dishes.
Thanks for teaching me to be thankful Mom and for all the good food you've made for your husband, your children, your grandchildren, your great-grandchildren and your friends in your country kitchen.
With a thankful heart,
Laura

What a sweet post! Kitchens are always the heart of the home to me. It's certainly where the women in the family talked and talked and came to know each other so well. I think it's great that you still can go home to that same kitchen! ~ Maureen
Thanks Maureen! My family is truly blessed that we can still go home and cook and yak, elbow to elbow with my Mom in her kitchen. So many memories.
what a beautiful post - wow - that made me nostalgic too - that could have been any of our kitchens in growing up in the 60's!
come in - sit down
relax - converse
our house doesn't always look like this sometimes it's even worse -
I think that hung in every single kitchen? lol
And those kitchen sinks were used for washing hair plenty of times too!

SuzyQ, I HAVE washed my hair in that sink!AND brushed my teeth there a few times too before my parents added a second bathroom to the house where a family of 6 was living!
What a sweet and lovely post! Such lovely smiles on those two sweet faces, and yes, they do look alike. How blessed you are to still be able to return to that house, and that your mom is still there. And the biggest blessing is that you know you are blessed!
