Wanderlust

I grew up on a small farm in southeastern Oklahoma.  It's beautiful there, you can see a few pictures here.  Since shortly after I got married, more than 30 years ago, we have lived where necessary for employment. We have not lived anywhere I would consider "fun".  We've had a lot of fun anyway so maybe what I mean is scenic.  To me that means water or mountains.  So occasionally I actually feel a little urge to move on.  Now don't get me wrong, I really don't want to move.  I love my home and (most of) my neighbors.  Also, we live fairly close to all our family, not as close as we would like to be, but close enough to visit for one night, so I can't complain too much.  But sometimes I'd love to live near the ocean or in the Rockies for a little while.

My sweetheart has been looking forward to retirement pretty much ever since he's worked full time.  His dream is a big truck, a fifth wheel trailer and the open road.  Traveling the USA and visiting all the beautiful and interesting places there are to visit in this country and Canada too!

Owning a travel trailer doesn't make financial sense for us while we get 3 weeks of vacation each year and don't have a free place to park.  But 10 years from now, if we quit working full time, sell our house in the city and put our stuff in storage for while, I'd be willing to hit the road for a couple of years.  I could live in California for a while, in Colorado for a while, along the Gulf Coast, see places I've never seen and meet lots of wonderful folks along the way.

So now and then we go "window shopping" for travel trailers and I think I could rough it for a while in something like this one.

It's got a nice entertainment wall...in the bedroom.  And it has a closet all the way across the end.  I'd lose that striped bedspread though.  Oh dear, already redecorating my fantasy travel trailer!

This one has a nice entertainment/storage wall in the living area also.  But wait! No fireplace?  This one might not do after all.

It does have a lovely kitchen.

And a cozy pair of recliners for us old folks

It's got a pretty sweet floor plan.

And a nice big shower.

These things are amazing (and yes, expensive)!  I guess I could rough it by "camping out" for weeks at a time in a travel trailer between trips home to visit family. What about you?  What are your retirement dreams? Would you be willing to hit the open road for months?  Or is it so far away that you don't even think about it?

Oh you would really love it. We had one very similar to this for a few years and enjoyed it so much. We sold it a few years back, and now I really wish we had another. Hugs, Marty

What you describe is exactly what my parents dreamed. They used to talk about it all the time. We had a travel trailer growing up and would vacation in it. What they planned for retirement was a big old Wanabago style that you didn't pull. They would talk about buying a little car (raising four kids, they never had a little car) and retiring on wheels.

Dad never made it to retirement. Sometimes, when I see an older couple in a vehicle like that, I get sad. I admit it.

I hope you two get to do it!

Me? I would like a little cottage by a moving stream.

We looked at so many before deciding on the one we purchased. We didn't go overboard on it, wanted to try this out for a few years to make sure we would actually use it and if we do we will upgrade. They are expensive! Love the floor plan of the one you have shared with us, pretty much perfect!!!
Blessings,
Cindy
