Welcome to December

I had another busy weekend.  We traveled home to Oklahoma for my Dad's 80th birthday party.  Here he is taking his youngest grandchild for a four wheeler ride.  Dad's doing very well and my nephew couldn't be happier.  It was a beautiful December day - in the 70s!  I'm not overly found of cold weather, cold rain, snow, etc.  But now that Christmas is approaching I am ready for it to be cool enough to sit by the fire. Instead, I had to turn our AC back on because it was approaching 80 degrees inside our house.

I had big plans for Sunday afternoon. When we arrived home I was going to finish my Christmas decorating and clean up the mess. (so tired of the mess)  We made it home by early afternoon and it was such a beautiful day that we ate lunch on the patio.  As I sat on the patio looking around at my yard, I saw a lot of trimming that needed done prior to the arrival of freezing weather. That's right - we have not had a single night of freezing temperatures and it's already the first week of December.  So while some people are sitting by the fire we are wearing shorts and flip flops in Texas!  My potted tropical hibiscus on the patio is still blooming!

So instead of decorating, I grabbed some lawn bags, my clippers and one glove (I couldn't easily find the other one and didn't want to spend a long time looking) and started trimming.  It was such a nice day it seemed a shame to go inside the house anyway.  I'm sure I'll be glad I took the time to cut some things back when we finally get those freezing temperatures.  I finished up itchy and with my hands a little bloody - I should have taken time to find the other glove, but the yard looks MUCH better!

I snapped a few pictures of my yard THIS morning - December 3rd.

The Geraniums are much happier than they were in the heat of summer.

The Periwinkles are winking.

The Begonias have dark and shiny leaves and are loaded with blooms.

The Elephant Ears are flapping in the breeze.

Welcome to December in north Texas!  This is a little extreme even for the south!

While I trimmed away in the back yard, SuperDave was slaving away in the front yard.  He removed the fallen leaves and bald cypress needles from our neighbor's trees from our still green grass.  We created a nice big pile 'o bags for the pick up today.

I'm once again determined to finish up the Christmas decorating before the weekend.  A couple hours tonight, a couple hours tomorrow night and I may have it all finished!  I'm anxious to share when I get it all done.

How's the weather at your house?  Are you wearing a sweater or a t-shirt?

Welcome to my December,

Laura

We're alternating...one days it's warm enough for a lightweight jacket, and the next you have to have a coat, gloves, hat...

lol

I'm not grouching though, I'll take as many warm days as we can get!

The weather is up and done here in my part of Canada. We've had snow and freezing temps and today it was shirtsleeve weather! Two years in a row in NOT normal this far north. I wish I still had flowers blooming like you, though! Your dad sure doesn't look his age!
