Three of the reasons I agreed to make the dress were
1) so that the dress would fit properly,
2) so that no one else would be wearing the same dress, and
3) because she could have an original dress that would otherwise cost HUNDREDS for $130 in materials plus countless hours of labor!
First we picked a pattern, some fabric, and some lace.
Then I sewed and sewed.
Yes, it was a LOT of work, but the smile on her face when she went off to prom feeling like
a princess in her "vintage" original it was all worth it!

The Titanic "Heart of the Ocean" necklace in red was the perfect find to go with the dress - http://www.amazon.com/, of course! |
On to my next project!

You did it! You made her a one of a kind, perfectly tailored, beautiful dress. She looks lovely and very, very, happy! ~ Maureen
It is beautiful!! I love the black lace over the burgandy. And she looks like she loved it!!
Fabulous!! She looks stunning.
GORGEOUS! GORGEOUS! GORGEOUS!
You haven't "known" me long, but I have a huge affection for what I call the princess projects. I love prom and formals and weddings. Locals call me a groupie.
Your daughter is a beautiful girl anyway, but she is just stunning in this. I love the picture where she is swishing it. You just have to swish a princess dress. It's a rule.
I also love that close up. How lovely she is!
I know there was a lot of work to do on this, but you have a one-of-a kind creation and a memory that will last a lifetime.
I'm giving you ten thumbs up.
(You can do that when you are all thumbs like I am.)
Thanks everyone! Yes Debbie, we ladies love those princess projects. I took several shots of her twirling and some of her boyfriend twirling her and they were SO COOL! But I didn't want to bore anyone with 10 twirling photos so I only shared the one. Love the thumb comment - you are so clever!
What a lot of work - thank heavens it worked out. Looks fantastic and so does your daughter.
What a beautiful dress!!! Your daughter looks like a princess and deserves to feel like one. Its so refreshing to see her in a classic and perfectly tailored dress. She is absolutely a lovely, young lady.
Stopping by from Truly Lovely linky party and your newest follower.
Here is what I shared this week: http://craftybrooklynarmywife.blogspot.ca/2012/04/another-coat-for-holly.html
Absolutely beautiful! Prom dress season was always such a stressful time for us shopping to find the perfect dress. Your daughter's is even more perfect because it's original and handmade! Very nice!
Looks so elegant! I love it! Kudos to you on taking on the project! Looks like a lot of sweat went into that dress, with a beautiful outcome, of course!
Visiting fron the newbie party!
the dress is just lovely. The colors really suit her.
Wow and woweeeee. I can't believe that was handmade. What a lovely thing that she will treasure always!!
The sacrifices we make for those we love IS ALWAYS worth it! I'm sure she felt like a princess. ;)
Thanks for linking to Time Travel Thursday. Hope you'll join the fun each week.

Lovely, very lovely, I always want a vintage style prom dress, and it is so different from others.
